Bio
MY NAME: I was given the name "Sa' Elayssa" (spelled phonetically) by my Russian Gypsy father. The meaning in his language, Romanesh, is "with all her heart." He has always been entranced by Belly Dancing. It was love at first sight when he saw my mother performing at the Seventh Veil, a popular Belly Dance night club in the 1970's.

TRAINING: As a small child, I accompanied my mother, Jenza, on her frequent Belly Dancing jobs. I would sit quietly in the background, eating my baklava, and taking in every move she used to enchant her audience! My mother was a beautiful, strong, passionate dancer, and at age 16 I was inspired to pursue Belly Dance for my own creative expression. Since turning professional, I have had the joy of training with Jenaeni and Ansuya, Dahlena, John Compton, Jill Parker (of Ultra Gypsy), and most recently with Nazemi and his Persian Ballet company, Pars National Ballet.

PERFORMANCES: I have performed in many venues, both locally and internationally. In the western United States, I had the pleasure of living in San Francisco where I performed regularly in Pashas, Marrakesh, Amiras, and Cafe Istanbul. In 1998 I was chosen to tour India for a special contract with troupe Yaleil. I am currently based in the Los Angeles area, dancing for Hollywood events, private parties, and performing regularly with the Pars National Ballet. In addition to continuing the study of traditional forms of Middle Eastern Dance, I have also been expanding my boundaries with experimental themes. These experiments have led to the development of Desert Sin dance company. Currently, I co-direct and choreograph Desert Sin along with my creative partner, Djahari.

ADDITIONAL DANCE BACKGROUND: In addition to Middle Eastern Dance, I have also studied and performed Jazz, Modern, Ballet, and Persian Ballet.
